Get to know MedPeds physician Dr. Curtis Cary, who serves patients in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Introduced to the medical field at an early age, Dr. Cary pulled upon these interactions as a crux for his direction in life. He found the medical community to be a place where he could give back and make a difference. Currently, he holds the dual positions of an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, and the Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga and Erlanger Health System. He loves working with students and residents and is driven by his desire to make a difference. He can also be found on staff at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger in Chattanooga. Prior to his current roles, he served for a year as the Medical Director of the Polk Dalton Clinic in Lexington, KY. From 2015 to 2017, he served as an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and UK Healthcare. He originally started his career as an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at this institution in 2009.

Curtis Cary, MD, FAAP, FACP, attended the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington, KY, and received his medical degree in 2004. Furthermore, he conducted his residencies in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Dr. Cary received certification in HIV Medicine by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Society for General Internal Medicine, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the Society of Hospital Medicine. Moreover, he attained fellowship of the American College of Physicians (FAPA) and fellowship of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP). In addition to his medical degree, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree acquired at Western Kentucky University. Over the years, he has received several awards, including the Eagle Scout Award (Boy Scouts of America), the William R. Willard Teaching Award (Department of Pediatrics/University of Kentucky), and the Abraham Flexner Master Educator Award (Office of Excellence in Medical Education/University of Kentucky College of Medicine).
